Internship/Traineeship
The Autism Program (TAP) typically has 8 -12 internship positions available each semester for credit (HDFS 455 ). We accept UIUC graduate and undergraduate students. Undergraduates must have second semester Sophomore, Junior or Senior status. The internship will be taken for 2-4 credit hours-requiring 6-12 hours/week working in our resource center:

We are currently accepting applications for Summer, 2026. Applications are due by January 4th , 2026. There will be an interview process to determine who gets an internship position.
It is an internship course with a few assignments designed to learn about Autism and Autism supports. Students will learn about:
- Services and agencies that help children, families and individuals throughout Champaign County
- Developing visual supports and educational materials for families and professionals
- New Diagnosis Orientations
- Consultations for families and service providers
- Play Groups and classroom supports for preschool aged children on the spectrum
- Social Groups for school-aged children
- Young Adult and Teen-Club
- Community Events
- Environmental Assessments
There is a mandatory orientation day that occurs the Friday before classes start.
There is NOT a designated meeting time/day. Schedules are formed around students’ availability. All direct-experience opportunities are also during the hours you sign-up for.
